Number Ninety Three

The title “Number Ninety Three” refers to the Highway along which I captured the reference for this painting. Also called the Icefields Parkway,  it’s one of my favourite drives in the world stretching from Jasper to Banff. 

The weather was constantly changing on the day, as we drove through rain and snow to beautiful sunny patches with blue skies. Just north of the Columbia Icefield, this vista opened up and it was one of those “pull over right now!” moments. I have never seen so much snow laid down so perfectly, so undisturbed. I wanted to capture the feeling of the vast flat plain and the mountains rising up out of it, creating the perfect backdrop and the distinct winter light filling the sky with the glow of snow crystals.
